By Firefighter Matt Hills Jr.
April 4, 2019

The Officers & Members regret to announce the passing of Firefighter Jared “Jay” Wolters. Jay was a well-respected member of the department and held the positions of Recording Secretary and Assistant Engineer. No matter the situation, Jay would always bring a smile to your face. Jay took great pride in all he did and worked closely with our Cadet and Junior members.

Jay was 23 years old, resided in Glen Mills, PA and passed away sadly on April 2, 2019. Jay was born at Riddle Memorial Hospital and raised in the Concord Twp., PA area. He was a 2014 graduate of Garnet Valley High School and had attended York College and Delaware County Community College. As a young school boy, Jay attended St. Francis de Sales School, where he also served as an altar server. He was active in sports with the Brandywine Youth Club and during high school. Jay was a determined young man, he accomplished anything he set his mind to and was known to have a kind heart. He was involved in the Habitat for Humanity, and was a member of the Bethel Hose Co. #1 where he also played on the softball team. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, however his true passion was riding and also rebuilding his Harley. Jay was employed as a machinist by Affinity Solutions Corp. of West Chester and Summit Industrials in Newark, DE. Jay is survived by his loving parents, John and Brenda Russell Wolters, siblings, Nicholas, Kaitlyn, Rachel and Thomas Wolters; his maternal grandparents, Raymond and Helen Russell; his paternal grandmother, Dolores Wolters; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. A visitation will be held on Sunday evening April 7th 7-9 PM at Pagano Funeral Home, 3711 Foulk Road, Garnet Valley, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday April 8th, 10:30 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle, 430 Valleybrook Rd, Glen Mills, PA. Interment will remain private at Siloam Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Twp. Hose Company #1, 3737 Foulk Rd, Garnet Valley PA 19060.

We wish to thank all of those who have reached out and supported our department during this time. Special thanks to the Aston Township (17), Lower Chichester (39), Boothwyn (40), Brookhaven (52), Ogden (55) & Concordville (59) fire departments who have all provided coverage the past two days
